‘Loving Lavender ‘Lilac’’, was inspired by ‘Living Lavida Loca’, Ricky Martin’s 1999 hit record, which directly translates to ‘living this crazy life’. Life can get crazy sometimes, especially, when you go from feeling high/on cloud 9, to having your spirits low and not even understanding how you got there.

The days following Lagos Fashion Week were characterized by a feeling of inexplicable down that I still can’t make sense of. I would admit that I wanted to shut myself in my room, away from the world, but that wasn’t an option as I had to keep up my responsibilities and commitments (e.g. work and court appearances).

However, I did the following, and hope they would help you if you ever feel down and need to get your groove back/have your spirit lifted and spring clean your mind:

  1. Take some time to focus on your spiritual life (trust me, it helps).
  2. Get lots of rest; not necessarily sleep, but cut yourself off from everything you don’t have to do.
  3. Do something you enjoy (sketching, walking, going to the movies etc.).
  4. Pamper yourself (hair, nails, makeup, dinner etc.).
  5. Try something bold, exciting and/or challenging (e.g. join a gym, go hiking).
  6. Connect with family and/or friends you are sure would help to lighten your mood.

Taking a step back from  everything I didn’t have to do and focusing on getting my mental stability back definitely helped me to feel like myself again.

On a lighter note, for the final day of Lagos Fashion Week, I experimented with a monochrome look; channeling one of this year’s biggest spring colours: lilac. Having earlier fallen in love with this fabric sold by my dear mum, I designed a top and a pair of shorts (that I wanted to look like a skirt) combo which my amazing tailor @oluchilkpemba brought this to life. I was really excited to try something sophisticated and fresh, whilst still keeping my look fun and flirty.

I really hope this post has been helpful in encouraging you to find inspiration and the light within you to pull you out of any darkness you may feel at any given time.
