The cyclical nature of fashion has such an undeniable and resonating attraction, to the extent that even trends and styles from decades ago find their way back into our modern world. Consequently, it comes as no surprise that designers like Givenchy, Prada, Chanel, Dior and Balenciaga, to name a few, preserve their clothes over the years and same eventually gain the ‘archive’ status. Admittedly, ‘classic trends’ (see definition in ‘PUSSY BOW’ post) have a shorter cycle-span and polka dots fall into this category. This year, ‘upsized dots’ or ‘dalmatian dots’ happen to be the ‘in-vogue’ version of polka dots and they have been spotted everywhere.

The Dalmatian-style dots add a dimension of cool sophistication and fun of to any outfit, while still giving the overall effect of a chic and sleek aesthetic. I was gifted this kimono (or maybe it’s actually a dress?) by my aunt early last year, and I’ve been wearing it repeatedly ever since. It’s the perfect way to give your dressing a little festival fashion edge, without it being overly done, or out-of-place.  I know this year’s festival season is long gone, but it’s still fun to incorporate some festival fashion into every day wear, especially because of its effortlessness and fun nature.

Festival fashion, especially Coachella or Beychella (as this year’s event was popularly called, because she is Queen B and she dominates!) is generally characterized by ease and playfulness and leans heavily on a bohemian (boho) vibe (think modern gypsy, hippie, and flower child ). However, there has been an increasing incorporation of more punk, grunge and edgy vibe into festival fashion over the years, and this look easily falls into place. What I love most about this look, is how practicality is made stylish; my playsuit for fun, and my upsized dotted kimono to protect my skin from harsh sun or cold, depending on the weather.

If like me, you’re into upsized polka dots, chances are that you already have at least one item in this trend, probably several, in fact. Give the same piece a new look by experimenting with a festival-ready vibe like I did here, or go chic and keep it simple. Either way, keep your Dalmatian-style dotted piece as the ‘star-item’ and you’re stylishly dressed for any occasion.
