BLOGGING: 6 MONTHS AND BEYOND

I can’t believe that it’s already been six months since I started my blog. It really doesn’t feel that long, to be honest and I still remember when it was just an idea. I’m glad I finally ignored all the excuses I kept making about why I shouldn’t, and eventually gave in and started. It’s been an interesting ride so far and I’ve definitely learnt a lot.

I’ve learnt (and I’m still learning) more about organizing and scheduling myself around a demanding 9 to 5 job while working effectively on my blog. Consistency is key to success, so though I’ve improved, I know I still have a long way to go. I’ve considered having set days for posting, but we’ll see how that goes.

It’s been fun sharing my style and I’ve tried to consciously incorporate different ideas into my post so it can inspire others to adapt their style, without feeling forced to adopt my personal style.  I remember when I was still thinking about starting my blog, I considered doing a huge fashion haul, but the truth is that I never did. I just started with what I had because I felt it would be dishonest to completely change my wardrobe for the purpose of my blog. Also, it would have been too expensive.

One of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced is finding good locations.

On one hand, I’ve learnt that there are hardly any ‘public places’ in Lagos – you find a beautiful ‘public’ garden for a shoot, and you get harassed by ‘area boys’ claiming they are maintaining the place. On the other hand, private locations cost money  – not just ‘little change’, I mean ridiculous amounts of money. It’s like the managers think that I’m a celebrity (they just haven’t heard of) and feel the need to charge exorbitantly for a shoot; to the extent that I just walk out, because of their outrageous demands for money.

Meanwhile, if you take pictures on the street, everyone stares like it’s the highlight of their day. Also, let’s be honest, most streets in Lagos are not picture worthy.

Overall, it’s been great having a blog and I’m pleased with the choices I’ve made so far. However, I do want to experiment more with my style, posts and shoots. Also, there are facets that I am yet to explore, such as collaborating with other bloggers and brands and that’s something I am looking forward to in the near future. But most importantly, I love that the reasons I decided to start a blog are still very true to me and haven’t changed; sharing my passion for fashion and inspiring others to explore and experiment with fashion.

All that aside, I really need a vacation and this post is definitely giving me vacay vibes. Lounging by the pool in a vacay-worthy co-ord (matching set) with no worries in the world, enjoying the simple things in life and watching life go by peacefully. Perhaps, that should be my next focus…
