BEACH REFLECTIONS 2: ARE SMALLER DREAMS THE WAY TO GO?

We were all told to dream big when we were children… and it was amazing!

Being filled with that inexplicable belief that we could be anything we wanted to be when we grew older. Some of us even went a step further and imagined the lives we were going to live at various points in our lives, and it was, you guessed right… amazing!

Some have been lucky enough to have worked towards the life they wanted and are currently living it and I hope they are happy with it. Others, rather, the majority of us are not living our lives the way we planned we would and are dealing with it however way we can.

The main culprit of this ‘dream crushing’, I’ve come to realize over the years, is the fact that we learn to dream big when we are young, and we stop there. We don’t remember that there are various steps involved that may even feel inconsequential, towards achieving that goal.

It might be as simple as the time that we choose to get up in the morning, or the particular time we choose to start getting ready for an event. I have repeatedly shown up late for events just because – translation, I had no reason at all, even though I really wanted to go.

So, I’m approaching things a different way now – I’m learning to dream smaller. This doesn’t mean that I’m abandoning my larger dreams altogether – NO!

It simply means that I’m learning to focus on the smaller dreams, the smaller goals, the baby steps, especially since they feel more achievable. I will constantly keep the bigger picture in view, but I intend to progress gradually in trying to accomplish my larger goals. Especially with the whole COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted our normal lives – now, more than ever, is the time to really focus and transform ourselves to live the best life possible.

How about you, do you find it easier to achieve things by focusing on the larger picture or the smaller picture?
