Bohemian, or boho fashion is traditionally hippie fashion. However, in modern times, it has developed into a style that is classified as effortless, romantic and fun, especially because it’s perfect for frolicking around the beach and music festivals like Coachella.

The overall aesthetic of bohemian chic (or boho chic) is a style that is characterised by easy, loose-fitting and very free clothes. It’s all about effortlessness and non-conformity when putting together and styling your outfits. For inspiration, think of celebrities like Kate Moss, Nicole Richie, Sienna Miller and Vanessa Hudgens.

It’s a very easy style to try-out, no matter how laid-back you are when it comes to putting any effort into styling. To give this style a go, try the tips below.

1…Think of the elements you need to wear. For texture, you should consider retro prints, lace, eyelet fabric etc. And for style, you should focus on lots of fringe, embroidery, peasant blouses, bell or trumpet sleeves, bishop sleeves, off-shoulder blouses, flowy dresses and skirts, flared/hipster pants (trousers) or bell bottoms and the likes.

2… Try to mix and match separate bohemian pieces. The good news is that they always tend to go, so you don’t need to put in any effort. In this post, I’m wearing an off-shoulder ruffled ruched blouse with puffy sleeves and eyelet mustard shorts. Both pieces separately have bohemian vibes and still combine perfectly together.

3… Don’t forget to style your hair. The typical boho girl usually styles her hair in a non- sleek way, whether it’s in a bun, braids, loose waves or left free like mine. Also, add hair accessories – think beads, scrunchies, headbands, flower head-bands, scarves and of course, hats, like I have on in this post.

4… Accessorize, of course!
Think beyond just hair accessories and go for lots of funky accessories and bold jewellery. A basket/wicker/straw or woven bag is always the perfect combo to create a bohemian aesthetic. Also, leather fringed bags could be a cool option. Add as much funky jewellery as you want like my necklace and rings. You can go all out with your accessories. The bolder and chunkier they are, the better. Go a step further and add sunglasses for an even cooler boho chic look.

And don’t forget your facemask – safety over everything 😊

5… Finally, focus on your footwear. Strappy sandals are always perfect, even heels (just usually not too high, to maintain the care-free essence of boho fashion). Also, boots are the perfect footwear to channel your inner boho chic, however, it’s not practical with our weather here, so pair your outfit with trainers instead – your look would still have a bohemian vibe, just with a more modern twist.

Hope you give these tips a go when next you feel like adding bohemian hints to your outfit or go all out and unleash your inner bohemian goddess!!!

  1. […] Co-ords are definitely investment pieces that transcend trends and will always be classic and timeless. In this post, the combination of the mustard shorts and blouse two-piece gives it a playsuit effect as well. The best thing about co-ords is that apart from pairing the pieces together for that monochromatic effect or single silhouette like I did here; you can style the pieces separately for more outfits which is very cost effective. I’ve also styled these shorts separately in a post titled […]
